What Percentage of Vibe-Coded Projects Actually Make Money?

Financial outcomes among 100 selected Reddit cases: 82 earning, 13 zero results, five project sales.

We analyzed 100 Reddit projects and founder stories with a disclosed financial outcome. 82 had income or paying customers, 13 reported a zero financial result, and five had been sold. The sample spans first payments of $10, small apps earning a few hundred a month, and products reaching $4,260 and $30,000 MRR.

Vibe coding makes it easier to turn an idea into an app. We wanted to see what happens next: what people pay for, how founders find customers, and how much these small products earn.

We selected stories with a concrete financial outcome: income, paying customers, an explicitly reported zero, or a completed sale of the project.

Out of 100 stories: income, zero, or an exit

Financial outcomes: 82 earning or paying-customer cases, 13 zero results, and five project sales

82 had income or paying customers. This includes first purchases, advertising revenue, recurring subscriptions, donations, and paid client development.

13 reported a zero financial result. We combined zero revenue and zero MRR into one group. Six of these projects were separate experiments by the same creator.

Five projects had been sold. We counted exits separately because selling an app is a different outcome from collecting recurring revenue.

That means 82% of this sample had income or paying customers. This is the share within our selected 100 stories with disclosed financial outcomes. We are measuring monetization; calculating net profit also requires expenses.

Every earning project on one chart

The chart contains all 82 cases with income or paying customers. Each project gets one row showing its amount, currency, and type of financial result. Filter by period or search for a project or author.

There are 37 monthly figures, 26 sales or revenue figures covering other periods, and three daily, weekly, or annual figures. Another 16 cases disclosed payments or paying customers without a monetary amount; they appear on the chart too.

How projects break down by MRR

26 projects disclosed MRR. Of these, 23 reported US dollars, one reported pounds, and two did not name a currency. The other 74 stories described different financial outcomes, including sales, advertising income, donations, paying customers, or exits.

The distribution below uses the 23 explicitly reported dollar MRR figures. One-off revenue and acquisition prices stay outside this monthly subscription comparison.

Dollar MRR distribution across 23 projects
Monthly MRR Projects
$0 3
$1–99 4
$100–499 7
$500–999 1
$1,000–4,999 5
$5,000–9,999 0
$10,000+ 3

The median was $188 MRR. Fifteen of the 23 projects were below $1,000; eight reached $1,000 or more. Among the 20 with positive dollar MRR, the median was $425.

Interesting projects in each range

$0 MRR: Splitbill and Vibe Talent. Splitbill splits restaurant bills: take a photo of a receipt and assign items to friends. Friends of the founder and Reddit users use it, but the creator has yet to find a monetization model. Vibe Talent helps developers showcase projects and find people for testing or work. Its founder built it with Claude Code and reported zero MRR.

$1–99: Remoot at about $9, and an email parser at $29. Remoot connects a local development environment to a phone or browser, letting developers keep working away from their computer. The founder promoted it on Reddit and Peerlist. The email parser was built with Claude Code over three weekends and found its first customer in week five.

$100–499: Algosaham, SyncUp, and Photo Cleaner. Algosaham helps people test trading strategies for Indonesian stocks and reported about $100 MRR with 25 subscribers. SyncUp lets friends watch online videos together with voice and text chat; its roughly $100 MRR covers hosting. Photo Cleaner removes unnecessary and similar photos from a phone gallery. Its founder also reported around $100 MRR, with early customers coming from Reddit.

$500–999: a B2B sales tool at $550 MRR. Reddit user Bahojake420 built a niche SaaS for sales across platforms. MRR grew from $95 to $550 in three months. Distribution is built into the workflow: customers use the tool with their own clients, who see it and start using it themselves. The creator reported two or three new trials per day.

$1,000–4,999: GainFrame and a content analytics SaaS. GainFrame analyzes fitness progress photos and reached about $1,000 MRR. User prezmak's analytics tool for content creators reached $4,260 MRR and 87 paying customers. The founder used X and Reddit, followed by short demo videos. Another B2B product reached $1,000 MRR in two weeks, finding its first ten users through messages to personal contacts.

$5,000–9,999: no cases in the dollar MRR group. The next three projects fall directly into the $10,000-plus range.

$10,000+: a Shopify app and a marketing platform. A niche app for online store owners reported $13,600 MRR, selling mainly through Shopify App Store search with almost no marketing. WondersaurusRex's marketing platform reported $30,000 MRR, 150 users, and 25 teams. Neither post disclosed the product name.

Outside the dollar ranges, a contractor compliance SaaS built entirely with Lovable reported around £2,000 MRR. Its founder regularly posted in relevant Facebook groups and did not spend money on ads.

First payments and small side incomes

ManyScripts: the first $10. A creator without a technical background built an app with Claude and Replit and received the first payment.

LG TV Remote: around £200 a month. The founder says the app covers their AI bills. A small utility already pays for part of the cost of building it.

Other early customer milestones include MyDrugTesting with nine paying subscribers and 200 active trials three weeks after launch; FranklyMail with 54 paying users; and Kiiwi with more than 60 buyers for its mechanical keyboard sounds app for Mac.

A first payment and tens of thousands in recurring revenue are different stages. Moving between them means finding an audience, improving the product, and discovering what people will pay for.

How GainFrame reached $1,000 a month

GainFrame MRR milestones: from $100 in late March to about $1,000 in July

GainFrame passed through milestones of $100, $250, $500, $750, and then roughly $1,000 MRR. Along the way, the founder spent $5,674 on advertising experiments. Customer acquisition cost was around $114 against an estimated customer value of $18.

In mid-May, the founder turned off ads and focused on analytics, paid-feature access, and onboarding. Across the last four small cohorts, 46 of 104 trials converted to payments: about 44%. The move from $750 to $1,000 MRR happened without ad spending.

The story shows how much happens after launch. Revenue depends on how many people stay and pay as well as how many arrive.

Selling the project is another route to money

LiveStamp sold for $8,000 after six weeks. The creator built a postage-stamp photo app with Claude and Codex. A demo took off on Threads, followed by videos on TikTok and Instagram. After improvements based on feedback, the founder sold the app: the LiveStamp story.

Another founder reported selling an online game for $25,000. Before the deal, it had about 950 users and zero revenue. Reddit and YouTube helped bring in the audience. We count this as an exit: a buyer paid for the product and the people using it.

There is also a smaller client-work model. A developer built a QR ordering and loyalty system for a coffee shop with Claude Code and earned $700. They showed a working demo to owners of three businesses; the first agreed to buy. We count that payment as client-project income.

Which acquisition methods appear most often?

We identified specific acquisition methods in 37 of the 100 stories. One project can use several channels, so these shares do not add up to 100%. We counted methods actually used, rather than suggested future tactics or in-app ads that generate revenue.

Acquisition methods used in 37 founder stories
Acquisition method Cases Share of 37
Reddit 15 41%
Paid promotion 12 32%
Word of mouth / contacts / own audience 10 27%
Direct outreach / demos 9 24%
Video / YouTube / TikTok / UGC 8 22%
Web search / SEO 6 16%
App store search / ASO 5 14%
X / Twitter 3 8%
Organic Instagram 3 8%
Partnerships / affiliates 3 8%
Product Hunt 2 5%
Organic LinkedIn 2 5%
Facebook groups 1 3%

Peerlist, Threads, editorial coverage, and offline posters each appeared in one case. Reddit was the most frequently named individual channel: 15 of 37 stories. Paid promotion, personal networks, and direct outreach followed.

What worked better, and what worked worse?

Reddit: strong examples of first users and first payments. ZenMode attributed 60–70% of signups to Reddit. GainFrame found more than 100 TestFlight testers there; its launch day produced $250 in subscription revenue, all from people who had already interacted with the founder during testing. Reddit was Photo Cleaner's main source of early customers. For LovingBooking, however, the founder described it as more useful for feedback and testing than signups.

Search and app stores: strong stories when people already want a solution. The Shopify app at $13,600 MRR relied mainly on search inside the app store. User etherswim reported 4,000 MRR in an unspecified currency, growing through pages targeting narrow search queries. PestPro Manager got one subscriber after difficult cold outreach and the next from Google, prompting a focus on SEO.

Direct sales: a clear route for B2B. The coffee-shop app creator showed owners a working demo and earned $700. In another case, posting in a group of 325 business owners produced zero signups, while messaging personal contacts brought the first ten users. A specific conversation was more useful than a general announcement in these stories.

Paid advertising: sharply different outcomes. LocalDock's TikTok ads brought roughly 300 visitors and zero sales. GainFrame spent $5,674, with acquisition cost around $114 against $18 in customer value, and stopped the campaigns. There were positive outcomes too: LOC8 reported around 2× ROAS on Facebook, while a Lovable MVP founder reported €800 in weekend sales on €100 of ad spending. These are different products and campaigns, but they show how much the economics can vary.

Video: impressive reach, with different business results. LiveStamp received more than one million views in a day following its Threads post, then used TikTok and Instagram videos before the $8,000 exit. An iOS app by Sea_Canary2321 reached its first $1,000 in sales through a story combining App Store search and organic videos. Short demos can help when the product's result is immediately visible.

Product Hunt: two contrasting stories. Following a launch, LocalDock reported $268 in total revenue and about 30 buyers. ZenMode's creator said the launch had no noticeable result. Only two cases in our sample named this channel.

The clearest examples of early payments involve focused communities, search for a specific problem, and direct demos to potential buyers. Paid ads include both campaigns that paid off and expensive failures. Frequency of use and performance are different questions: views, signups, payments, and return on spending are separate steps.

What these 100 stories show

Among stories with a disclosed financial outcome, 82 had income or paying customers, 13 reported a zero result, and five projects had been sold.

The routes to money vary: subscriptions, small utilities, advertising, donations, client work, and selling the app itself. Stories with meaningful revenue usually include work on distribution alongside the code: relevant communities, search pages, demo videos, or conversations with a specific buyer.

The dollar MRR group's median was $188, and eight of 23 projects reached $1,000 or more. Reddit appeared most often among the described acquisition methods. Particularly interesting are the founders who found a narrow audience or showed a finished solution to a real customer.

A working prototype opens the door to launch. First users, first purchases, and repeat payments turn it into a small business.

About the sample. 100 projects and founder cases from Reddit posts and comments dated May 1–October 11, 2026, selected for income, paying customers, an explicit zero revenue/MRR result, or a completed project sale. Duplicate mentions of a project were combined. The sample includes AI-built products, developer-led AI-assisted projects, and client apps. MRR ranges use 23 explicitly stated dollar values. Other financial results were kept in their original currencies and periods. Acquisition frequencies cover 37 stories describing methods used. Amounts in this article are rounded to whole currency units. Individual Reddit sources are linked in the full project chart.
