Photosynthesis Camera pairs two iPhone lenses in one shot: the wider lens keeps the scene, while the tighter one contributes optical detail near the center. Its maker showed the concept on Show HN in August 2026 and announced an App Store release on September 4.

The build was an alignment problem

The maker described days of prototyping, weeks of building and months of refinement. Two lenses see slightly different perspectives, so the app has to align and color-match their captures, then manage parallax where the images do not fit neatly. A second quality mode can take sequential lens shots after the simultaneous capture and use those for the stitch when they provide better detail. The editor allows manual alignment and selective reveal from either lens.

More than 2,000 test photos, then a public release

In a first-person launch post, the maker reported over 2,000 test photos and an iPhone release supporting models with at least two rear lenses from iPhone 11 onward. In the Show HN discussion, they said their own A/B shots had better central detail than Apple's Camera app. That comparison was not independently benchmarked, and some commenters preferred aspects of the standard image. The tangible milestone is an available app; broad photographic superiority remains unproven.
